As a professional freelance writer I am happy to take on commissions of all types. Areas of particular interest include careers and employment, popular psychology, the Internet, small business matters and self-employment. I also write about writing itself (grammar, style, punctuation, etc.) and gambling for profit. I am happy to consider any length of commission, from short article to book length.
I am an experienced business writer, having worked for PR and advertising agencies, and as Communications Officer for a national charity (the National Association of Volunteer Bureaux). My work includes brochures, leaflets, press advertising and advertorial, press releases, articles, TV/radio scripts and so on. I have also worked as courseware editor/writer for Wolverhampton University Business School.
I have written fiction to order for several publishers, notably Lagoon Games, for whom I wrote eleven 'puzzle' stories for their 'Five Minute Fiction' series. I also helped to write the scripts for Lagoon's CD-ROM based products Cyber Babe and Cyber Boyfriend. I have won awards in various story writing contests, and my work has appeared in a range of magazines and anthologies. I would welcome the opportunity to work on TV and film tie-ins, fiction-based Web sites, short story collections, series novels, etc. Please click here to see an example of my fiction writing.
I enjoy helping new and aspiring writers, and have run workshops, adult education classes, weekend (and week-long) courses and so on. I have also been a tutor on various writing correspondence courses (The Writers Bureau, Medina, Writers Feedback). The subject areas I can cover include freelance journalism; writing non-fiction books; short story writing; writers and new technology; and starting to write. I also run sessions on developing creativity and 'the nuts and bolts' of good writing.
I offer a tailored writing and communications consultancy
service for businesses and other organisations as required, up to
and including full communications audit. I also run staff
training sessions in such fields as report writing, advertising
and PR, newsletter editing, presentation skills, and so on.
